Project description:

The consumption of fossil raw materials for the production of fuels and combustibles as well as for numerous products in the chemical industry in Europe is around per year (as of 2023). This corresponds to around 1.7 billion tonnes of CO₂ that are released during the use of these resources and pollute our environment. Pyrolysis of biomass offers a promising alternative. Instead of burning the resulting liquid fractions (bioliquids) to generate energy, they are extracted and processed in a targeted manner. The aim of this research project is to analyse bioliquids from plant residues from agriculture and forestry in order to open up new application possibilities in the chemical industry. To increase efficiency, we rely on AI-supported process control and a digital twin. These technologies enable precise optimisation of pyrolysis conditions and maximise the quality and yield of green carbon and bioliquids. By developing and testing innovative automation steps, we are helping to establish sustainable value chains for bio-based raw materials.   Source: https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/36202/umfrage/verbrauch-von-erdoel-in-europa/
